almost to the 3rd trimester

In a couple of days we'll be entering the 3rd trimester. Hard to believe! I'm feeling really good now. Morning sickness is a thing of the past and I'm back to my old self (only bigger). Just this week, however, I'm starting to discover the "uncomfortable" side effects of pregnancy....(i.e. hard to tie my shoes, hard to get in and out of bed, sore feet, aches and pains). It's amazing how quickly things with your body can change week to week when your pregnant!

We had our first baby shower last weekend. A big thanks to my sisters and mom for hosting it. The shower was wonderful! It was nice to see everyone so close to the holidays. Thank you to all our friends and family for the warmest welcoming of Baby Meek.

Baby's Room

We are moving forward on the baby's room. We picked out a white crib, white dresser and light brown glider/rocking chair today. With a delivery time of 8-10 weeks, there wasn't much time left to spare. We've also decided on the baby bedding as well. A picture of the bedding is attached. We aren't getting all the accessories, but at least this gives you the general idea. Hopefully the nursery will be put together and ready to welcome the baby by the end of February. Be sure to check back in a couple of months to see the final results.

Meek Thanksgiving

We spent Thanksgiving with Kyle's family in Evansville. The time was spent eating, watching movies and lots of play time with our nephew Aidan.

Watch Out - Kicking Baby

I started to feel the baby move a couple of weeks ago, but it wasn't until last week that the movements became consistent. The movements are strong enough now to feel on a daily basis. The baby is most active while I'm trying to fall asleep at night. Perhaps that's the baby's way of training me for the lack of sleep I'll get once he/she is actually born. A few days ago Kyle felt the baby for the first time. He had his head on my belly just to see if there was a chance he could hear the heartbeat. Instead of hearing anything, the baby kicked him square in the face. Although we were quite excited Kyle felt the baby move, we couldn't help laugh at the fact that Kyle unborn child actually kicked him in the face. Classic!

Baby's First Picture

We had our 21 week ultrasound yesterday. Everything looks really good at this point. We saw two arms that the baby liked to move towards his/her face consistently during the ultrasound and we saw two legs that are apparently tucked right below my rib cage. We could see the eyes, nose and mouth. The technician pointed out the 4 chambers of the heart, kidneys, bladder and umbilical cord. Per our request we did not see the sex of the baby. Only 18 weeks until we'll know for sure!

Happy Halloween

The Halfway Mark

We've hit the halfway mark. I am now 20 weeks pregnant and the belly is starting to grow. The morning sickness is pretty much gone and the appetite is back.

Kyle hit it big at the French Lick Casino last weekend and bought his pregnant wife a digital camera with his winnings. What a sweet husband! Below are some belly shots from the new camera. Enjoy!

A 4 year-old's suggestion

Our 4 year-old nephew, Wilder, has been busy thinking of names for the baby. Although he thought Bicycle was a good name, he's decided Fencepost would be better. Also, he says Fencepost can be either a boy's name or girl's name. So what do you think? Should it go on the list? Fencepost Meek.

Dr. Appointment and Maternity Clothes

We had our 17 week check up today. All is going well. I had a weight gain on the scale (3 lbs.) so we are now moving in the right direction. My blood pressure continues to be very good. Overall the doctor is happy with the progression. We heard the heartbeat again. The doctor could tell Baby Meek was moving all around and she practically had to chase the baby around my stomach with the sonogram to find a consistant heartbeat. The baby's heart rate is 150 which is very strong. We have our next ultrasound in 4 weeks (November 9th).

It's official. I have a baby bump. We think it's pretty noticeable, but I have yet to have a complete stranger comment on my pregnancy. I am now wearing maternity clothes full time. Thank you, mom, for taking me shopping. It is nice to wear shirts that don't fit like crop tops! Currently we don't have a working camera so we will post a belly shot as soon as possible.

Goodbye Green Bathroom

Before we can start on the baby's room, we need to address our outdated bathroom. We've had trouble with leaking water under the tub and some of the green tiles are losing their grip. Solution - redo everything! So far we've purchased new tile and started the demo. We'll keep you posted on the progress.

Picking a Name

We've been busy looking for both boys names and girls names. We've started a list and we do have some front runners. However, we're not really sharing. Yes, another surprise you'll have to wait for!

So to satisfy your desire to know what's on our list, we will tell you the names NOT on the list. Below are the names that Kyle or I picked and then were vetoed for one reason or another.

one trimester down, two more to go

I am 15 weeks pregnant now. Just this week Kyle and I have noticed that I'm starting to show. I still fit into my regular clothes but I find myself wearing maternity pants anyway because they are so comfortable. No buttons...no zippers...I could get used to this!

I still feel pretty sick at night. Since I started my 2nd trimester I've actually thrown up a couple times. All the books said the morning sickness would go away after the 1st trimester, but apparently I'm not part of the majority. I am feeling better and have more energy during the day. I'm doing things like cleaning the house and doing laundry again which I hardly had the energy to do before. Kyle is really happy about that! I haven't gained any weight yet (still down 12 lbs since getting pregnant). My doctor doesn't seem to be conerned but I've been trying to eat more now that I'm feeeling better.

We've read that we should feel the baby kick soon (between 15-20 weeks). I haven't felt anything yet, but we are really looking forward to that milestone.

Will it be a Boy or Girl?

We've been asked a lot lately if we'll find out the sex of the baby. We've decided that we're not going to know. If you have an idea of what the sex is, please vote on our poll. Check back often to see what other people think!

Baby on Board

The big news right now is WE'RE HAVING A BABY! We had our first doctor's visit today. On the ultrasound we could see the baby's head and heart beat. You could also see the "nubs" that will soon be arms and legs. The technician and Kyle saw the baby wiggle . . . of course Mom missed it! We are quite the proud parents because not everyone gets to see their baby wiggle so early. Apparently it takes a lot of energy for someone the size of a cherry to wiggle!

I'm doing well. I've had little nausea but nothing too bad. It's been hard to find foods that sound good to eat. Soups and pasta seem to be the staples right now. Bed time is now around 9:30pm, however there have been a few nights where I didn't make it past 8:00. Let's just say I'm getting lots of sleep these days.

Baby Meek's due date is March 18, 2008. The countdown begins!

Congrats to Mr. and Mrs. Ryan Fox

Our friends Ryan and Eleanore were married May 19 at Eleanore's parents lake house in Lakeside, Michigan. It was an outside wedding overlooking Lake Michigan. The weather was amazing! Thank you Fox and Eleanore for letting us share in your day!

A group of us rented a lake house (Belle Cottage) for the weekend. Below are some pictures of the house and the private beach. As you can see it was a great place for a weekend getaway.

Mr. and Mrs. Drew Johnson

Congratulations to Drew and Kristie who wed Saturday, April 21. It was a beautiful wedding and a great reception. Kyle and I were secondary sponsors in the ceremony and Kyle got to wear a traditional barong (formal men's wear of the Philippines). It was great to see all our Cleveland and Chicago friends. We wish Drew and Kristie a life of wedded bliss!

Reno - Lake Tahoe

5 day, 4 night vacation to Reno and Lake Tahoe hit the spot. A big thanks to Kyle parents for such a fun Christmas gift! And contrary to unwarranted concerns our business didn't suffer when we were away. Is that the sign of a good boss or a bad one?
















Reno was good to us. Kyle is notorious for losing at casinos, but not this time! Craps, roulette, betting on sports; it didn't matter. Of course eventually our luck ran out and we were excited if we simply won money on a penny slot. We also learned that the Double Diamond slot machine is the only one worth playing. We even turned Kevin into a slot player and that's no small task.















Unfortunately we didn't have nice weather at Lake Tahoe. It was 30 degrees with light snow and rain. Because of the poor visibility we didn't get to do all the tourist activities like riding the gondola or taking the boat tour around the lake.

We want to give a special thanks to Kyle's cousin, Geoff, for being our tour guide while in town. He and Toby were the best!

Happy Birthday Indiana All-Star Driving

It's official, Indiana All-Star Driving is now 4 years old. The company was incorporated in February 2003 and is still going strong. We now have 9 locations (2 in Evansville, Newburgh, Jasper, Ferdinand, Washington, Noblesville, Lafayette and Castleton) and have contracts with several Indiana high schools to run programs on location. We also have anywhere from 45-65 employees (depending on the time of year) and insure a fleet of 21 vehicles. It's been almost a year since Becky quit her advertising career and began her coup d'etat to take over the family business. In the last couple of weeks she was promoted to CFO in addition to her duties as the office manager of Castleton. Yes, Becky is now in charge of all the finances at home AND at work! God help us all.

Welcome!

Welcome to the inaugural launch of what is sure to be the most intrinsically entertaining blog started in '07. We wanted a place to update our friends and family on all the latest news without actually having to talk to them. So Voila, we started a website.

For our first post we want to thank everyone for making Super Bowl XLI, also the 4th Annual Meek Superbowl Pary, so memorable. Not only did the Colts go to the Super Bowl, but they ended a very long two weeks victorious. We couldn't be more excited, especially the parts of the weekend we remembered. Thank you to everyone who made it over making the evening such a tremendous success. We did miss most of you on Monday for the clean up party, but we understand. We loved having so many Colts fans, and that one Bears fan (you know who you are), participating in the festivities. We hope to see everyone back next year regardless if the Colts make it to the Super Bowl or not.
