Carter and Santa

Carter experienced another holiday rite of passage. We packed him up in the cold weather (10 degrees outside), drove to a crowded mall (it's packed on the Sunday before Christmas), stood in line with other children (some crying, some running thru their lists) all to meet Santa Claus.

We had another first today!

Carter is turning 9 months old on Saturday. How did he get so big so fast? As proof that our little guy is growing up, I captured his latest milestone on film. He figured out how to crawl! This video is his second attempt. This first time Carter crawled he was in his room and spotted Nina (our cat) in the hallway. Reaching her must have been his motivation. Either that or perhaps the athletic apparel we put him in today.

I received an award...

I typically write about the happenings around the Meek house and not myself, but Molly Powell gave me the Kreativ Blogger Award. In honor of such award I need to do the following:
List six things that make you happy. Pass the award along to six more bloggers.: Do not give the typical answers and go for the less obvious, as you all know that family, friends, God, etc would be on the list:

1. Christmas music. Don't get me wrong I love it all season (throughout the year actually), but it always seems more special the day after Thanksgiving and late at night Christmas Eve.


2. Even if I'm the one driving my husband pumps my gas, no questions asked. I despise pumping gas in the winter and he acts like it's a treat. I'm sure it's not. Just another reason why I love him!


3. Pajama pants. When I worked in an office I would be out of my work clothes and into my pj pants within 5 minutes of being home...no kidding. I could wear them all day, and now that I'm a stay at home mom (with a very part-time job) I sometimes do.


4. Coming home to a clean house after being out of town. The reality of a vacation being over is less traumatic when I walk in and see a clean kitchen, a made bed and no clutter.
5. Good pillows. It seems like I've been struggling to find a good pillow forever. They always seem to go flat or they're too firm. Then the question becomes do I stack two flat ones to make one decent pillow? If it's too firm do I just sleep without a pillow? Well, almost 3 years ago we found a pillow maker from Minnesota at the Indianapolis Flower and Patio Show. Kyle and I were so impressed with the production of these pillows that I held onto this guys card for 2 years. We finally bought them a year ago and I'm happy to report they're neither too firm or flat.
6. Tivo. Pausing real time TV. Rewinding funny parts that I missed from not paying attention. Recording shows (without tapes). Need I say more?

I have to admit, I don't know a large network of bloggers, yet. Most of the people I know have already received this award, so instead of asking them to do it twice I'm only going to send this on to three people. These are three ladies I don't get to see often so I am so happy they now blog. I feel like I have a little more insight to their everyday lives. 1.) Katie Koleszar. She went to college with Kyle and is now living in Switzerland with husband and 2 kids. 2). Erica Monttien. She claims she doesn't have enough to write about. Well lady, you do now! 3.) Emily Puente. Emily and I went to high school together (and on the swimming/diving team together). After graduation I lost touch with Emily. Without blogging, I wouldn't know about her cute, cute family.

Thursday Carter spent some playtime with his pals. First we stopped by the Kelkers house to see James and his new baby brother Will.

I wasn't going to post any of these pictures on the blog since you'll see more of these pictures on our family Christmas card, but I couldn't resist. So here's a sneak peek......

Kelker Baby #2

Our friends Craig and Nicole Kelker had their second boy on Tuesday. After a very quick (but very painful) delivery, William George Kelker was born at 3:26 am on November 25th. Nicole made it through childbirth in two and a half hours and without drugs. Amazing!

The Meek trio stopped by the hospital to visit. Of course we forgot to bring the camera so we have no pictures to share. This is the second time in a row we've gone to see a new babe and forgot the camera. Augh!

Baby Will is so sweet. He was alert while we were there - just taking everything in. Simply adorable! I have to admit newborns look so tiny compared to Carter. Our baby is getting too big too fast! Nicole looked wonderful. In just 15 hours after giving birth (naturally I might add) she managed to update her blog and facebook page, shower, put on real pajamas and put on makeup. Carter is 8 months old and I STILL can't manage to put on makeup! Hats off to this mother of two!!

Congratulations Craig, Nicole and big brother James. We are excited for you!

A day with the grandparents

Sunday afternoon Grandma and Grandpa Meek came to visit.

We walked around the mall

and we went to lunch

and we played with new toys. It was a great visit!

8 months old

Carter is now 8 months old and we have some new tricks to share.

• He is officially a roller. Carter has been able to roll over for months, but he now steamrolls all over the room.
• He started sleeping through the night at 7 months old. Most nights he sleeps from 7:30pm to 6:00am. Mom and Dad couldn't be happier!
• Carter gives hugs and kisses. The hugs are wonderful and always unexpected. He pretty much grabs you and pulls you in tight. The kisses are wide open-mouth kisses. Slobbery, but cute. You just have to watch out. Some times he tries to bite.

Visit with Aunt Robin and Montana

While Aunt Robin and Montana were in town for Papa Big's celebration we spent an afternoon together at the grandparents house so the kiddos could play together.

Fearrin Insurance celebrates 50 years

Yesterday Papa Big (Bob Fearrin) was honored for being in business for 50 years. The Carmel Chamber of Commerce recognized his accomplishments during a luncheon at the Ritz Charles. Papa Big started an insurance agency in what is now call the Arts District in Carmel back in 1958 and is still selling insurance today. Will he ever retire?

The family was invited to the luncheon and we threw him one big surprise. He didn't know his kids were going to be there. Robin and Brett flew in from Colorado and Melinda drove up from Evansville. The look on his face was priceless!

Later that evening the celebration continued at our sister Lisa's house. We did a lot of catching up and reminiscing. Carter loved being around so many people. He didn't want to miss a thing. I'm sure he would have stayed up until midnight if we let him.

Congratulations, Papa Big! We love you!!

I just love babies in halloween costumes. I wish we could dress them up all year. Here are a couple of pictures from the Kelkers bonfire.

Introducing Mia Johnson. This little sweetheart was born back in September to our friends Kristie and Drew. She has the cutest little face and a head full of black hair. Mia is simply a doll baby!

First Trip to the Cottage

Carter visited the cottage for the first time this weekend. Some of his aunts, uncles and cousins came up for a visit.

In the evening the family had a halloween party.
