Answer: True

A word to moms who keep mum: talk. Researcher Janet Huttenlocher found that at 20 months old, children of chatty mothers averaged 131 more words then kids of silent moms. At two years, kids of talkative moms knew almost 300 more words. Kids do better when they are part of the conversation rather then just being around talkative people. When talking to babies, use descriptive short sentences, plenty of inflection.

Well, the bathroom remodel project we mentioned several months ago is finally underway. The contractor started this week and like all construction projects it's taking a bit longer then expected. Since we only have one bathroom in our house we been heading to the good ol' YMCA to take showers. Thankfully the contractor has reset the toilet every night. The combination of not having a toilet and being 7 month pregnant just doesn't work.


Here are some demo pictures. As you can see Kyle got involved by ripping out the wall between the bathroom and the baby's room.

Hopefully we should have pictures of the finished project by the end of the weekend.

Your Baby.......

Can you believe it's only 8 weeks until our due date? I think the reality that it's right around the corner is setting in for us. Looking back at the pregnancy I think there is a phrase I say quite often that Kyle will miss dearly: "Your baby makes me (fill in the blank)."

1st Trimester examples:

Your baby makes me feel bad

2nd Trimester examples:
Your baby makes me have heartburn
Your baby makes it hard to roll over in bed

Funny how all the negative aspects of pregnancy tend to be Kyle's baby. Of course when something is positive in the pregnancy the phrase changes to My baby (or Our baby) makes me..............

Pregos at a party

Last weekend was a 30th surprise party for our friend, Melissa (who by the way is also pregnant). I missed the shot of her coming in but here's a picture of everyone waiting for her grand entrance.

For the special occasion the host and hostesses of the party bought some non-alcoholic beer for the pregos to enjoy. Here is our pregnant friend, Julie, and me knocking back bottles of Sharps.

No stars we know of have named their baby after this ubiquitous digital device, although actress Gwyneth Paltrow joined the fruit family by calling her first child Apple. Moxie Crimefighter is the name chosen by comedian Penn Jillette for his daughter, while Pilot Inspektor was the invention of Jason Lee, star of "My Name is Earl," for his son. And "Six Feet Under" star Rachel Griffiths named her little darling Banjo.

I guess these names make Fencepost Meek look pretty good!

2008: The Year of the Baby

Happy New Year! We are expecting a fun-baby-filled year and so far January is no exception. With 10 weeks left in the pregnancy, baby preparations are in full swing. Becky's doctor's visits are now every two weeks rather then once a month. We've signed up for birthing classes, breastfeeding class and newborn baby care classes at the hospital. And last but not least, Kyle started prepping the walls in the nursery to paint.

Here is the 30-week belly shot. The baby is large enough that we can make out body parts. We can clearly feel two hard areas in the belly. We imagine one must be the baby's head and the other must be the butt, but we're not sure which is which. Also, Becky swears she felt a forearm or shinbone push up a few days ago. The baby is pretty active now. The kicks are stronger and we've found that Baby Meek really likes hot chocolate. One small cup and the baby really starts groovin!
